Bridging Research and Industry

We do more than build digital technologies — we cultivate the relationships that connect academia, industry, and AI policy. On the industry side, we deepen long-term collaborations in finance, aviation, and retail, carrying our research into the solutions our partners bring to market. On the policy side, our role as host of the Taiwan AI Center of Excellence (Taiwan AICoE) lets us convene researchers, companies, and government agencies from Taiwan and abroad, and has opened AI policy dialogues with Germany, the United Kingdom, and France — making the Center one of Taiwan's leading forums for AI.

Growing Taiwan's AI Ecosystem

Building a thriving AI research ecosystem in Taiwan is a goal we are equally committed to. In 2025, our AI Top Paper Symposium featured 29 papers by Taiwan-based researchers accepted at ICLR, CVPR, and ACL, drawing 246 attendees from over 55 companies and institutions. We also organized two Frontier AI Safety Forums that same year, bringing experts from PNNL, LLNL, and MITRE to Taiwan to exchange ideas on new practical standards and the future of the technology.

Mission and History

The Center traces its origins to the International Top-Tier Research Center Program, launched by the National Science Council in 2010. Through successive waves of technology — the AI, IoT, HCI — we have held to the founding ambitions behind that program: to attract world-class talent to Taiwan, to raise the global standing of its universities, and to build a research institution of international rank. Since 2021, we have concentrated that capacity on two fronts: proving AI in real industry settings, and shaping policy at the national level.

Taiwan AICoE Program Office

As the operating body for Taiwan AICoE, designated by the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the Center works across four areas: national AI policy, international collaboration, governance and regulation, and frontier research. Through a competitive call for proposals, we selected 20 research projects; we have built AI collaborations with Germany, the UK, and France; and we host landmark events including the AI Top Paper Symposium and the Frontier AI Safety Forums — all in service of Taiwan's vision of becoming an AI island.
